the horrible jcpenney menace

Once upon a time, on a dark and sticky summer night, a certain sales clerk was wandering the juniors' department of JCPenney fixing any and all unsightly messes that caught her eye. It was 9:30 pm, and, as usual, there was a family clogging up the fitting rooms with all their school-shopping-bundles of clothes. The children were throwing on and off shirts and pants galore, having a grand old time thinking about looking so good at school. The poor, worn-out sales clerk noticed that it was closing time for all in JCPenney. Knowing the department ever so well as she did, the clerk knew that these happy customers most likely did not hear the announcement made over the intercom that it was closing time. So the clerk, thoughtful and anxious to get home as she was, sauntered over toward the family in the fitting room. The sales clerk casually walked up and said, "Excuse me....I don't know if you knew that our store has just closed. I'm not sure if there is a register still open in case you were planning on buying some things. I can go check though. Just a minute." So the sales clerk swiftly walks over to the nearest register to see if it is still open for check-out, and fortunately....IT IS!! "Yay," the clerk thought, "thank goodness." So she hurries back to the family and tells them the joyous tidings. The mother of the family says under her breath, "Usually they give an announcement that the store is closing." To which the clerk replies, "They did give one a couple of minutes ago." The mother says, "We didn't hear it." So the clerk, not thinking anything of it, says, "Oh, I heard it, but...." All of a sudden the mother morphed into a hideous menace of a thing right in front of the clerk's eyes! The mother's voice sharpened and came out with, "I am amazed at the rudeness of sales clerks these days!! You can't come over here and tell all five of us, who did not hear an announcement, that we heard an announcement!!!!" The frightened and somewhat agitated sales clerk attempts to clarify, but the mother went on! "Your mamma didn't teach you no manners!!!!" were the horrific words that flowed all to easily out of the mouth of the raging menace. The clerk was astonished! How could she say that about me?! about my mother?! The nerve!! But, the sales clerk knew better than to aggravate the situation, so she merely walked away and continued her tidying-up. A moment later the clerk's friend from the men's department runs over and whispers, "That ------- is ratting you out to Vincent!!" Vincent, of course, is the manager. All the sales clerk could do was bite her tongue, literally and figuratively, as she waited for the minutes to pass until she could go home. Just so you (the reader) don't get frightened, nervous, or upset, I'll tell you the ending. Thankfully the poor, worn-out, and now very much angered sales clerk did not get in trouble from the manager. Yay!!

The moral of the story: Don't ever be a menace when you are the last customer in the store, or else.....BEWARE. You may not be as lucky as the Horrible JCPenney Menace.
